A year ago I started the journey through the home solar business model, the business is going well, according to the technical and financial model.

Today 6,200 kWh have been generated with solar energy – after 11 months of operations – and with it generated the change in the energy matrix of my home, so that in net terms the energy of the house has been supplied by the solar system, the effect is net because the surplus is delivered to the grid during the day, and at night when it is not. These days I am making an expansion of areas of my house, so the design requirement was that the energy source of that area was also sustained by strong renewables, in other words I decided to increase the solar generation capacity of the house was to supply the new areas that are developed. So I contracted new solar generation facilities, this time four new solar panels.

Solar technology has advanced, with «bifacial» solar panels now available that take advantage of the back area or face of the panel to have a back «panel» that also generates power, thereby increasing the efficiency of the array, the supplier offers that the new panels have a 10% higher efficiency.

To optimize the use of areas in the house, I proposed for the project already installed to make a kind of optimization by technologically updating or «retrofit» by replacing two panels of the original project by two of the new generation, thus optimizing the use of the most productive area, and with it the generation park of the house – the two panels that are removed from the original area will be installed in the new areas, leaving in the new area two old panels and two new ones- .

The installation has been done – it took two hours to install – and is now up and running, thus benefiting the original business model by 1.67% – considering that the two solar panels – i.e. 2/12 of the solar park – were replaced by 10% more efficient penalties.

I decided to document it on the blog, with the joy of a successful project – by the way, you can see in the photo the difference in the back of the panels, to know the bifacial panel-.
